‘The Swan Sanctuary, Shepperton’ by Jen Chisnall

‘The Swan Sanctuary, Shepperton’

by Jen Chisnall

“Illumination from the crushed silk moon
Veneers the lakes with mothered pearl.
It’s quiet here, so quiet….
The mute swans silent, still.

One yesterday, an action to forget-
An accident, or with intent.
Unwanted dreams, unwelcomed,
Are vanquisched , powers spent.

Orphans and casualties, brought from near and far,
Succumb , at last, so thankfully,
To gentle healing hands
And tireless tenderness.
Sheltered in this haven-
This precious sanctuary.”

This poem was submitted by Jen Chisnall as part of October’s Words in Focus competition.
